myJTP
@myJTP I would not wait on Canon for anything Those guys are not really addressing the 4k market at all and I bet its still a while before any 4k dslr at all. They will not put in a dslr before the C100 mark II and that is not even a year old yet. I think get a gh4 is a huge vaule for what it offers and then add vlog to that... damn this is monster of a camera for under 1500 bucks with vlog or get one used and its even cheaper. Any word on which metabones adapter to use? Atomos just came out with a Ninja Assassin – New 4K HDMI Recorder for $1,295 it does 10Bit 4:2:2 will that pair up nicely with the GH4? jonpais
Use the XL 0.64. It is sharp as a tack with the Sigma 18-35mm, and offers a touch more FOV than the ULTRA 0.71.
sanveer
I meant internally. The price of a 4k recorder is a significant further investment to match\beat the competition. If they can output 10 bit, i dont see why they cant record it.Actually recording 10 bit 4k woud require some serious processing power, superb write speeds and may even cause serious heating issues. Plus the GH4 records in the vicinity of 4 hours. 4k at 10bit might cause some serious explosion I am guessing.
studiodc
Fantastic. Just pre-ordered it myself. Can't wait to try it out, even if it means I need to put a PIX-E5 on order too.
AaronChicago
When will Atomos make a 4k Ninja Star? sanveer
sanveer
When will Atomos make a 4k Ninja Star?wow. I thought the same thing.Actually since the BlackMagic Video assist won't be appearing any time soon, they should upgrade the Internal recording to 4k ProRes and add another $300 to the price tag. Hehehe

I tested it with Sigma 18-35 f1.8, Canon 50 f1.4 and Canon 70-200L II with no issues at all. Very good investment!!

fuzzynormal
Jessica: I am sorry but there seems to be problems when the order is being placed overseas.Use an IP proxy from the U.S. and it should go through, I think.
MattH
Actually recording 10 bit 4k woud require some serious processing power, superb write speeds and may even cause serious heating issues. Plus the GH4 records in the vicinity of 4 hours. 4k at 10bit might cause some serious explosion I am guessing. Processing power OR write speeds. Its already debayered, converted to YCbCr and chroma subsampled. It could merely record that data if it had the write speeds. Or, true, processing power would be needed to compress. Maybe the GH4 can't do it, but it isn't beyond the realm of posibility. I was just going to say that the Canon XC10 manages it, but apparantly its only 8bit, so maybe its more difficult than I thought after all. MattH
How the transcript should have read: Jessica: The Vlog update only costs $99.99, before taxes! We provide FREE Shipping if we place the order today, too! You: Ok cool, it that next day delivery or is that extra, will fed-ex be delivering my FIRMWARE UPGRADE? Will it come on CD-rom or floppy disk?Jessica: Let's go ahead and add it to your cart! Do you have any other questions before we proceed with the order process? You: Yes, I have a question. what makes you so arrogant as to assume I will need and accept your assistance?Jessica: To help speed things along, please let me stay with you throughout your purchase, that way we can ensure you complete the order successfully. You: No! good day sir! You: It just said "There was a payment processing error. Dearborn
You need to cool down. Customer service folks are doing their job and being friendly when a lot of people might not be. They don't make Panasonic's decisions. Just be happy the firmware is being released and is reasonable for people to afford. Peace TheRenaissanceMan

Administrators Andrew Reid Posted September 1, 2015 Administrators Share Posted September 1, 2015 Panasonic didn't go all the way with the anamorphic or V-LOG updates.I am sure they are holding back liveview anamorphic desqueeze and LOG view assist for the GH5. Astro
An interesting post from Illya FreedmanFor the record, 8-Bits can absolutely be enough for log space. What matters most is the quality of your bits, and what you attempt to make those bits do.Here's the thing, and this is absolutely something you won't hear from anyone else, V-Log-L on the GH4 is not the last significant update for the GH4! There's about 3x people outside of Panasonic that actually knows how much power is lurking under that hood.I have no idea if future updates will be contingent on this upgrade, but this camera is already producing more apparent resolution that several top end cameras made just for cinema. I projected a scientific test on a Christie 4K projector on a 25' screen in February 2014 which proved this. Now with V-Log-L, the humble GH4 just overtook the DR of several "professional" cameras costing many thousands more.
