Introducing the new DJI Zenmuse X5 and X5R camera, the world's first aerial camera with a micro four thirds (M4/3) sensor designed for the inspire 1.

Supporting 4 interchangeable lens (DJI MFT 15mm f/1.7 ASPH lens, Panasonic Lumix 15mm G Leica DG Summilux f/1.7 ASPH lens, Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12mm f/2.0 lens, and Olympus M.Zuiko 17mm f/1.8 lens with more to be supported) with access to adjust focus and aperture via the GO app, you now have the power to create aerial magic.

I don't know why (12.8 stops of dynamic range amd 2.3x crop), but this seems to have the GH4 sensor. I have this strange feeling that the GH4 was crippled by Panasonic  (like almost all manufacturers do) to ensure that it doesn't entrench upon some other lineup. And that the GH4 CAN shoot Raw Video at 30p (maybe even higher frame rates).

Btw, this aeral drone is officially the First Micro Fourth Third Sensor to shoot Raw video. Wow. I am also guessing that Panasonic will introduce RAW in its DVX200 via a firmware, since it is capable of shopting raw.

They are announcing two different models, the more expensive X5R model has some crazy 1.7 Gbps video bitrate with a max of 2.4 Gbps Bitrate, also records in D-Log mode lossless CinemaDNG Raw on a 512GB SSD option

To support the management of Zenmuse X5R Cinema DNG files, DJI will release software to edit and convert RAW camera footage. CineLight, which will be available when the Zenmuse X5R camera is released later this year, simplifies users’ workflows by offering offline proxy editing before converting the CinemaDNG files to ProRes.

These specs almost make high end DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras a joke for video production, specs wise.

The Zenmuse X5 is available for pre-order at store.dji.com for $4,499 (€4,999), including a DJI Inspire 1 and DJI’s MFT 15mm F1.7 ASPH lens, and will begin shipping before the end of September. The Zenmuse X5R will be available in Q4 2015 for $7,999 (€8,799).

So they are not going to sell it solo ?

The R model seems to have a Gimbal and a mount as well beside the extra features and the SSD

No 1080p/2k options? Specs seem to shows only 3 resolution choices at 30fps

Resolutions:

4096x2160(23.98p),
3840x2160(29.97/23.98p),
2704x1520(30/25P),
1920x1080(59.94/29.97p)

Anyone else feel like this was too much information to take in all at once today?  I had to take a break.

Some questions that spring to mind: (havent checked thoroughly for answers)

1. What is the readout speed? It it the same as the GH4 due to being limited by the sensor, or is faster due to different processing/cooling.

2. Is the 4k and QHD native crop like it is in the GH4?  I would assume it is, but what about HD, is that also a crop, or the QHD downscaled, or the full sensor downscaled?

3 Is the mini SSD proprietary?  Shooting 4k raw is going to need some extra media.
