A few notes on the GH1 firmware situation as it stands right now.
Today Panasonic have released a official firmware update, version 1.32
It doesn’t itself contain anything too exciting, mostly updates to do with the new 14-42MM G2 / G10 kit lens and it’s lack of OIS switch. The switch moves to the internal firmware menus.
Seeing the difference in the firmware’s code between 1.2 and 1.32 with regards the changed menus should allow the unofficial firmware project to identify how the menus are adjusted, so that the PAL / NTSC adjustable frame rates can be added.
At the moment, to toggle between PAL and NTSC or turn Japanese menus to English using tester13’s unofficial-in-development hack you need to update the firmware and increase the version number by 0.1 – if this is done more than 12 times, you end up at version 1.33 (assuming you started from 1.20). Because the firmware cannot be rolled back to an early version, you will then be stuck with the hacked firmware and cannot install the official version 1.3 firmware again or return the camera to an unhacked state.
So please proceed with caution when using the unofficial firmware provided by tester13, until this issue can be solved.
In the meantime, the official firmware – unexciting as it may be – is available from Panasonic here
NOW GET OUT AND SHOOT! 😉
