Panasonic’s Philipp Wolf showed me the inner-workings of the new GH3 at Photokina today. I was then let loose with the camera to shoot some test footage in 1080/25p ALL-I and 50Mbit 1080/50p mode. This camera was running firmware version v0.4 and so by no means final yet. What I found impressed me.

The third and final part of Zacuto’s debate provoking documentary on cinematography and cameras is out. Part 3 is to me kind of like Revenging the Revenge because it goes back to a non-creative scientific (empirical) test of the cameras. They appear in order of cost from the $700 iPhone to the $70,000 Sony F65 and each are treated with the same lighting, similar settings and the same grading to…
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/45596420[/vimeo] Warning – this video contains content some viewers may find disturbing. Not suitable for work. One of the best looking trailers I’ve seen on Vimeo from anyone has been for a tense Spanish thriller called Musgo. On this day exactly 1 year ago EOSHD reported on a rare sighting – a 4K digital cinema camera with Nikon mount from JVC. This product has quietly matured into something nearing release with a rumoured launch date of April 2012 at NAB and a rumoured price said to be under $9,000. However since this is JVC we’re talking about, something is probably odd about it. Does this cut the mustard?
2012 will be the best year for DSLR video since it all began to kick off in 2009 with major releases due from every big manufacturer. This is a Photokina year starting September 18th as well, where we will most likely see the Panasonic GH3. There are other key events like CES and NAB within 4 months to keep an eye on, particularly for a working Canon’s 4K DSLR prototype.
