The recent rumours surfacing of Panasonic releasing an AG-GH4 around the $3000 mark have been given a boost. Panasonic have now officially announced the existence of a 16MP Micro Four Thirds sensor which is capable of 4K video at up to 30fps, matching the rumoured specs of the GH4. Tantalisingly this sensor is even available as a customer part on the open market, making it available to Blackmagic Design.
Sony have just revealed an update to last year’s best compact the HX5 – the HX9v (and put the same new tech inside a bridge camera, the HX100v, with a ridiculously long lens and some extra manual control including manual focus ring, horray). Somebody had to get the 4K cinema ball rolling for consumers and sadly it is not Canon, not Nikon and indeed not even Panasonic or Sony. Of the big guns, Canon have shown a hairdryer with a small chip, and that’s it.
