At the beginning of the IFA show in Berlin, Andrew from SLR Magic dropped by at my studio and dropped off the V2 and V3 anamorphic prototype lenses the company are working on. As long time EOSHD readers will know I am a passionate advocate and shooter of anamorphic. The SLR Magic anamorphic is the first new lens of it’s kind to be announced in many years.
SLR Magic are working on a 1.33x anamorphic adapter. Hong Kong based shooter Edwin Lee has tried it out. The lens is ‘compact’ and attaches to the front of your prime. SLR Magic say it works best currently with their 35mm F1.4 on Micro Four Thirds and the Canon EF 50mm F1.4 on full frame.
The Contax Zeiss Distagon ‘Hollywood’ 28mm F2.0 is a classic fast wide for full frame and is incredible on Super 35mm as well. Wide open it’s one of the sharpest F2.0 wide angle lenses available and it has very little distortion. The Contax Zeiss version fetches $800 on eBay but there’s a $60 wolf in sheep’s clothing called the Pentax PK 28mm F2.0 which has a fascinating story behind it.

The 1D C is a marriage of beautiful 4K images and an unwilling partner who hasn’t shifted an inch to accommodate it.

Now an ingenious electronic follow focus by Markus Houy has been created making our dual-focus anamorphic glass single focus like high end…
