The Canon C300 Mark II specs are now out and you can see my opinion of the new camera below. As well as the C300 Mark II, Canon also announced the XC10 today, a 4K bridge camera with 12MP 1″ sensor. One is a winner and one isn’t!

Many people aren’t ready for 4K yet. These people just got the bargain of the century with a massive Canon price reduction on the old Canon C300. You can read my most recent views on the C300 here. But should you give into temptation and buy one? Let’s have a look at the options.
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/119331030[/vimeo] The Canon C300 (currently reduced to $11,500) was the $15,000 stalwart of the professional videographer, only recently did it have a compelling rival – the Sony FS7. The Samsung NX1 is essentially a cutting edge 4K Super 35mm sensor in a mirrorless camera, recently given a video oriented firmware update which improves dynamic range and the available image profiles. I was curious to see how the images from these cameras compared and I put my Canon…
The Sony FS7 is Sony’s next e-mount Super 35mm camera, shooting 4K XAVC. Thanks to the E-mount you can use Canon EF lenses on it and the Metabones Speed Booster for when a full frame look is required. It has a 180fps slow mo mode, with an ergonomic design much improved and closer to the Canon C300, with top handle, top mounted LCD and built in ND filter. It really looks…
View the price drop on the C300 at B&H here View the price drop on the 1D C at B&H here C300 and 1D C drop $2000 This is an interesting move by Canon. The 1D C I expected really to drop further in price because of intense competition from Panasonic and Sony at much lower prices. The C300 however has been selling very well but now apparently Canon want…

The…
SetLife Magazine (a recommended follow on Facebook) has compiled technical specification slates showing us who shot on what when it comes to the big 2014 Oscar nominees. Interestingly Arri cameras still sweep the board. There are also nods to the Cinema EOS cameras and even the GoPro, but the really surprising thing is not a single one of the films were shot on RED.
This test was conducted jointly with my good friend and neighbour Rudi at Slashcam – you can read his take on it in German / in English. In the battle of the 1080p cameras, the game has changed. Here’s how the 5D Mark III in raw recording mode compares to the best 1080p output from the Canon C300 and 1D C.
