It has been a great week for the GH2, with the new official firmware update. It adds a ‘HBR’ mode which is high bitrate 25p or 30p depending on if you have a Euopean / PAL or US / Japanese NTSC GH2. Here I’ll take a hands-on look at the new firmware in FAQ form, and whether you should use the official ‘hack’ or the unofficial one.

A huge change is happening to the camera industry. Cameras are no longer aimed at people who love cameras and this isn’t a photographic industry any more. Instead it is morphing into a consumer entertainment industry leaving many abandoned niches and gaps in its wake.
A week ago 43rumors published this rumour about a camera called the GX1 with a picture of a hybrid camcorder-like prototype from a patent. EOSHD has received more info about the camera.
Hints at future video capabilities have unfolded today. As yet they’re not directly DSLR related – but DIGIC 5 is the same processor Canon will use in the 5D Mark 3. It has been redeveloped from the ground-up with better performance, faster operation and new noise reduction technology.

Panasonic will split their lens range into high end and low end, in much the same way Canon does with their L lenses. The Lumix high-end optics will be designated Lumix X.
