Here’s my take on how the raw camera stands up.

Please note the compression and noise is from Vimeo not the camera John Brawley has some new Blackmagic footage for us. Unfortunately Vimeo streams 1080p at something like 7Mbit and John has no download option on this clip, so watching Blackmagic footage when it is so heavily compressed rather defeats the object of such a lovely 12bit raw camera. Nevertheless dynamic range and resolution are looking pretty good.
I’m a filmmaker, and the Canon APS-C line fails to deliver what I need. The 650D is the FIFTH APS-C DSLR Canon have released with no improvement in video quality. Starting with the 7D (1) we’ve subsequently had the 550D (2), the 60D (3), the 600D (4) and now the 650D.
If you are waiting for the out of stock Nikon D800 – it seems your wait might have to go on for a while yet – since the D800E might be the one to get.
Sam Morgan Moore (check out his take on this here) has sent me some high quality grabs direct from his ProRes footage today. Origin, the first 5D Mark III batch to land in London. To use it you will need to have a Panasonic GH2, and to enable 1080p Ex-Tele mode (commonly known as 1:1 crop mode). It gives a feel similar to 8mm or 16mm film on the GH2.
