This report is based on a pre-production model. The GH3 is Panasonic’s most far-reaching attempt yet to take on Canon’s DSLR-market domination. Thanks to a chance encounter I was able to very briefly try a GH3 this week in Barcelona. The camera was on loan from Panasonic and not available to the public to try, it was part of the private beta test program but they very kindly let me give my impressions of it after a brief 20 minute play with the camera behind closed doors. Again this was not the final…
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/50210718[/vimeo] One of the highlights of Photokina 2012 was meeting up with SLR Magic, the small but nimble optics company based in Hong Kong. This test footage was shot in 1080/25p ALL-I mode at 72Mbit, with two slow mo-sequences of Pocahontas and the juggler shot in AVCHD 1080/50p at 50Mbit. I also had a go at grading the GH3 footage with Peter Patten of Apple.

So far we’ve had field reports but nothing that goes into depth about image quality. How does it perform?

Don’t draw any final conclusions, this footage is just for curiosity value Want to see what a 4K DSLR looks like? The wait is over. Here is a very short 4K source file for download (sorry – temporally removed)
