The Nikon D5200 is equipped with a new Toshiba sensor and appears to outperform both the new full frame Nikon D600, Canon 6D and even the Nikon D800 when it comes to video. It looks like newcomer Toshiba didn’t get the memo “All DSLRs must suffer from moire and aliasing in video mode”.

As a stills camera I liked the Fuji X100 – it was an actual die-hard photographic tool with gorgeous good looks in a sea of plastic consumer gadgetry. They brought out one of the first proper fast wide lenses for Micro Four Thirds (the 12mm F1.6) by listening to demand and acting swiftly. Now they are building high end super-fast primes which are optimised for filmmakers as well as photographers.
Leica revealed their new M series camera at Photokina 2012. It marks the first time video has been implemented on a Leica M, with a brand new full frame 35mm CMOS sensor developed in Europe by CMOSIS. This test footage was shot in 1080/25p ALL-I mode at 72Mbit, with two slow mo-sequences of Pocahontas and the juggler shot in AVCHD 1080/50p at 50Mbit. I also had a go at grading the GH3 footage with Peter Patten of Apple.
Panasonic’s Philipp Wolf showed me the inner-workings of the new GH3 at Photokina today. I was then let loose with the camera to shoot some test footage in 1080/25p ALL-I and 50Mbit 1080/50p mode. This camera was running firmware version v0.4 and so by no means final yet. What I found impressed me.
